The last I heard: Jon said he got word that Alex is OK.
This was as of Monday- I guess that is the last time anyone spoke to him.
I did not realize until later in the evening that the status has changed so I spoke too soon. Please see my later post:

An ongoing discussion over at gloriousnoise.com makes it sound like the state of Mr. Chilton is not confirmed. I don't know the person who posted but according to him, friends of Alex's who left for Memphis in his car have still not heard from him. It certainly doesn't sound all that promising at the moment.

What I've heard is this-
He loaned his car to a friend, to drive several people to Memphis, but refused to go with them. He boarded up his house and stayed there.
The following day he spoke on the phone to the friend he loaned his car to. And some people were able to get in touch with other friends there in his neighborhood who also stayed in town, and they said they saw him that next morning.
Then the other levies broke. Apparently his neighborhood was flooded badly and the homes are underwater.
Everyone was worried again. Then a girl in Memphis said she also heard from him, but nobody seems to know whether that was before or after or the same time as the friend with his car.
Next the friends from his neighborhood got a message out (apparently people cannot use cell phones to talk, but are able to send text messages) that they had a group who were apprantly going to try to walk/wade/swim their way out of town. They had three shotguns. Alex was not with them.
Somehow some of these people seem to have actually made it out of town, and called friends in Memphis from somewhere in Mississippi. Alex was not with them.
Now his friends in Memphis are starting to ask what happened to Alex. There was contact, but then he seemed to have seperated from people there who knew him and nobody has heard from his since.
His friend in Memphis who has his car still has no knowledge of his status.
There is a rumor that he walked to the French Quarter.
The general consesus is that he is getting drunk on a rooftop in the French Quarter waiting to be airlifted out, but his where abouts are still unknown. That shouldn't be surprising, many people are alive there, and nobody knows where they are.
Everyone should assume he's OK for now.
I just spoke on the phone to an old friend of Alex's who lives here in NY. He's making phone calls down to Memphis to see if he can learn anymore info. |

OK, I am updating this. The last I had heard when I wrote that first post was that he was fine. So that is why I posted.
That was the last word anyone had in Seattle when I wrote this. After I got home from work, I saw all of these messages, I asked Jon because I started seeing all of this other stuff and got an email. He called Jody for follow up to the conversation from a few days ago and now the word is, chances are he is OK, and that is all we can hope for but NO, no one has talked to him in the last couple of days. It is the same as what everyone was saying, they talked to him after the major storms and he was fine the, but now there has been little to no communication with anyone in those parts since then. I never posted that Jon "spoke to Alex" which I have read somewhere, but that is how this whole grapevine thing goes.
So the "official word" is, the same as what his friend was saying on here. Jody talked to him Monday after the hurricane and no one has been in touch since. So I am sorry if I said he was "OK" too soon. That is how I understood it, and we are on the other side of the country.
I won't post anything else about it unless I hear that someone actually spoke to Alex himself OK. |

Hey guys..first post here, I found this thread in response from somewhere else.
Just wanted some of you guys to know that this story is getting out and it's on a lot of websites and discussion boards right now. I've been spreading it some myself I don't know that it's any consolation or does any good, but the way I see it the more it's being put out there the more people are aware and the more someone may have the opportunity to come forward and say "hey..I saw Alex in N.O." or whatever the case may be. Word got out the same way about Fats Domino and next thing you know he was found. |

As for other sites with info about alex, since someone posts they were looking, the alex yahoo group is another one that will have good information.

Forgive me for casually calling you Lisa when we don't know each other...
Do you think that statement could be submitted to some national newspapers &/or television stations? The media is a monster, but the right reporter may get the word out to the masses who don't use online forums.
