hi all

For me, releasing an album is no casual affair. I’ve been contemplating this record for 8 years, since the release of my last one. Some of these songs I started to play live as early as 2007. If you’re a fan of my music from Soft Commands or earlier, you’ve been a part of this journey and I think you’ll agree that this release should have no small fanfare. Life is short and we don’t know…will I make another one? I hope to make this one count and to reward those of you who have been patient with my slow creative process I have added some incentives for justifying that you don’t wait one minute more. I’ve made some extra items including a vinyl single with a unique, only-available-here track called “The Well” which was just recorded in Cordoba days ago (next to a very old well–they say: “write what you know”), the first ever Ken Stringfellow T shirt, and of course the album in all its digital and analog glory. Hi quality double vinyl cut by the lab coat wearing geeks at Abbey Road. CDs with deluxe packaging, both wrapped in intricate artwork by some of Holland’s most cutting edge illustrators and designers.

I want this album to be heard, by everyone, as soon as possible. It represents a major iteration upward in terms of complexity, emotional depth, and stylistic diversity over my previous albums. I’ve been involved in dozens of albums since 2004 as a producer, arranger, mixer, engineer, and player, and the vast amount of knowledge that has come my way by working with so many great talents and rising to the challenges each record brings is brought to bear squarely on this album. The album was recorded with the absolute top musicians from the very rich music scene of Holland, recorded in a world class studio (ICP Brussels), mixed by an experimental and visionary production team in L.A. (TheLAB). There’s a string trio from the Metropole Orchestra of Amsterdam that I have collaborated with on a composition, and depending on which format you order you’ll hear me in duet with Charity Rose Thielen from Seattle’s The Head & the Heart (Sub Pop) or the brilliant American comedian Margaret Cho.

I’m very proud of this album and I’d be prouder still and most grateful if you made the overture towards acquiring it in advance of its retail appearance. See you on tour in the fall.
