[ back to side projects ]
Jeanjacket Shotgun were described as "the Posies minus Ken Stringfellow," in a few reviews, though while the outfit was Jon and Joe Bass, Brian Young only appears on two of the tracks released on the 2001 album Collides Again. (Joe's daughter Brette, of their band Skyward, also provides vocals on a couple of the songs.)
Collides Again's cover shot is a re-interpretation of James Gang's Rides Again (1970), the band Joe Walsh used to play with before the Eagles. Jeanjacket Shotgun covers James Gang's song 'Collage' on their album.

A biography for Houston Party records (written by Joe?):
who'da thought members of the purist pop posies would have a funky/groovy side to them.......but lo and behold jon auer and joe skyward do have JUST that. after smoking a BUNCHA pot........they set up joe bass's 4 track, a drum set for jon (thats right jon rips on the drums!)and a bass amp for joe .... and commenced to not think too much about what they were playing, and JUST JAM......out of this came some pretty amazing heavy rockin grooves. they bounced the 4 tracks to 16 tracks, then the 16 tracks to 24 tracks......all the time adding just the right things to the songs, that were built rather than really written. from the funky GIMME GIMME, HAPPY SAPP and KISSING YOU to the rockin JASON'S FINN, LEFTY and TRAIN WRECK.....jon and joe both show that there is much more to their musical backgrounds and foregrounds than one might hear from their musings with the posies........all together the cd contains ten songs, half of which are instrumental, balancing out the songs with vocals to make a very cool listen! they're joined by former posies drummer brian young on electronic percussion on two songs. and joe's daughter brette sings on one song as well.....along with a few other guest appearances.
