Posies Shine ‘Light’ On New Album

Seattle-based power pop veterans the Posies will break a seven-year new album drought with “Every Kind of Light,” due Tuesday (June 28) via Rykodisc. The 12-track record would appear to have been a long time in the making. But according to co-frontman Jon Auer, its actual recording was a lightning-quick process capping a half-decade of the band’s adventures in limbo.

“We’d actually officially broken up after ‘Success’ in 1998 and called it a day,” Auer tells Billboard.com. “We actually decided it was over before making that record. Then we toured it and said good night.”

The Posies are PopBang’s Artist of the Month

and “Conversations” is the single of the week.

Very rarely do we have the Artist of the Month and the Single of the Week from the same artist, but a new full length Posies album doesn’t come around that often. “Conversations” has everything that Posies fans have loved over the years. Beautiful melody, stunning hooks, signature harmonies, and overflowing emotion, sounding as if it were starting side 2 of the now classic “Dear 23”.

If there was a Power Pop Hall of Fame, The Posies would be a shoe in for an inaugural induction. A very welcome return.

Forum

To go along with the relaunch of the site before the new album’s release, I have created a forum. It’s not actually up and running currently, as I’m not sure how to format it. Right now I’m just looking for suggestions from those who would be interested in a forum… if you are, register here: http://theposies.net/forum and give your opinion.

In addition to just basic sections for the band etc, I’m thinking of forums for discussing the new album, and reviews of the upcoming tour, for example.

Thank you in advance!
